5 Out of this World 🌎 Takeaways From the ACFR Young Leaders Initiative

  1. Cohesive and consistent higher-level leadership creates successful foreign policy. Particularly in conflict-ridden scenarios, we need cohesive leadership.
  2. Foreign policy and development does not to be flashy, to be effective. Kristen Sample from the National Democratic Institute brought forth this humbling perspective and it’s something I’ll carry with me throughout my career.
  3. Involving young people in decision-making uplifts the community in tremendous ways. Which makes sense, as policy often has multigenerational impacts.
  4. Innovation is a bottom-up, grassroots process that occurs when people engage with different, diverse communities. This statement came from Scott Miller from the Center for Strategic & International Studies and I couldn’t agree more.
  5. Last but not least, this conference helped empower me to continue working toward a career in foreign affairs. Specifically a career with the Embassy of Mexico or Hispanic Cultural Institute. As a persistent and resilient professional, I believe with time and commitment a career in foreign affairs is possible… of course, as long as the international pandemic doesn’t close the borders… again.
